“Will you please just shut the fuck up?”
“As the sun sets behind the 3760-foot long, double-decked suspension bridge rising 570 feet tall from below the Hudson River…”
“I’m dead serious, Jaco. Shut. Up.”
Jaco would often do a play by play of his observations. Most times Crazy Davey could tune him out, but not tonight. Tonight, he and his band of not so Merry Men were crossing the Rubicon, and none of them seemed to grasp how serious the consequences of this meeting would be.
Where they were standing, they could see the shadows getting longer. There, at the foot of the historic George Washington Bridge, the New York side: not out in the open, out on the Hudson, where the tourists might have to bother with them. But back a bit, out of the way, where business might be done.
And while business was good, it definitely was not nice.
“…with a clearance at high tide of 212 feet…”
“Jaco.”
“…it is the busiest bridge in the world.”
They had had their hands in everything: drugs, protection, sex, black market smokes, 4K televisions literally hot off the back of a truck. Anything that could be had for a price, and nothing was beneath them; there were no dollars too insignificant, too dirty, that one of them couldn’t be bothered to stoop to pick up.
Dirty deeds done dirt cheap indeed.
